Triumphant Return

It may have been 8 months, but over that time much has happened in the world of beer. Seasonal releases, mishaps (I'm looking at you dfh 120 minute), and more acquisitions for my beer fridge.

We may have missed a lot of time, but we have 40 wonderful stories chilling in my fridge as I type. It will be a wonderful 2011.

Tomorrow we will start again.

Update on status of site

Deke is currently unavailable for this sites usual brew tasting night so there will be a hiatus for a while, possibly unil 2011.

I will try and update the site with some of my personal tastings from time to time in order to keep our reader(s) happy, but I'm not promising much.

What's Next?

If you look through the most acclaimed beer websites on the net, the Westvleteren 12 is the top beer received by most critics. We acquired this beer a little under a year ago and have been letting it self-brew in the fridge for all that time, intending on having it on the 1-year anniversary of the blog. But, what some may think, is next?

Well, our initial goal was to top off the ratebeer.com Top 50 list. After further review, we noticed that the Top 50 is populated by mostly 2 beer types (Quadruples and Imperial Stouts). We then revised this goal to hit the top 5 (or so) of each beer style; broaden our views and have the best of each category. This will still happen, but we need to establish a new Mount Olympus.

We were thinking about setting our sights on the Tactical Nuclear Penguin or the Samuel Adams Utopias. Both of which are very expensive, but extremely alcoholic and rare beers. Also, BrewDog just released the Sink The Bismarck!, which is 41% ABV - we're also looking into this on the scale of extreme beers. If our readers (pending there are any) have any other suggestions on top beers we should investigate, please let us know in the comments. The community is the strongest part of the craft beer business and we like to hear feedback from that community - it may help us find something new!

6 Months

I can't believe that its already been nearly six months since this blog has started... Next Wednesday the 11th marks, exactly, the half anniversary. To celebrate this great achievement, Deke and I have decided to crack open one of the Westvleterens.

We will be reviewing the Westvletern 8 in 6 days time, stay tuned.

Site Update

No real review this week. Trying to readjust to a readjusted schedule among ourselves so hopefully we will do work next week. Expect solo reviews this week, though.

Future Weeks

There will not be an official brew tasting this week or next week. Fonnie has better things to do at home apparently so no work will be done. There probably will be the occasional post from periodic self-tastings, but otherwise expect the site to be stagnant for the next couple weeks.

Westvleteren

Fantastic news everyone. Fonnie's dad just arrived back from a trip to Europe. And, because he's such a God damned gent...we have brew! And not just any brew. Westvleteren 12 and 8 - the pinnacle of brew. Now, we hear this brew is best aged. So, we may age it or review it this Wednesday. Also, expect a brew run update tomorrow night.

Mission Statement

This is a website about brew.

And other stuff.

But mostly about brew. We intend to travel and sample many of the highly regarded brews in the world. Being lowly college students, we intend to trek America first and then move onto Europe once funds allow. Our updates will tend to be on Wednesday nights/Thursdays. Each Wednesday, Fonnie and I will sample a new brew to add to the list of reviews. Hopefully, those who read this will go out and follow our lead and try new and better brews. I know far too many people who see Coors and Keystone as the pinnacle of beer. They fail. This is the real deal. Also, I plan to use this website as an outlet for some alcohol-fueled adventures. Hilarity and stupidity will ensue. I hope you enjoy this website as much as we enjoy adding to it.
